The ant gathers food during the summer, in anticipation of the upcoming winter. She hides the kernels of wheat deep in the ground. The book's educational plot is about an ant that tries to carry a large kernel of wheat. She lays it down in the path because it is so heavy; her friends who chance upon the kernel are careful not to take it. (The ant's carefulness not to steal can be learned in Midrash Tanchuma.)
